Human power measurements

   Did you know that we can measure the power generated by a person?  We have a thermal and a work force power rating.  An adult can generate about 1500 watts (2hp) for short periods such as in weightlifting.  The maximum average human power for an eight hour day is more like 75 watts (0.1hp).

    Each person in a room generates thermal energy equivalent to a 75 watt bulb.  That is one of the reasons why a crowded room warms up.
