Motor efficiency

   A standard combustion motor is only 25 to 30 percent efficient.  An electric motor can be up to almost 100% efficient.  This is measurable.  

   Most of the burning created energy is lost to heat and exhaust.  This means that you need a much larger (hp) to achieve the same amount of work, as compared to an efficient electric drive.
